Michigan City, IN (May 4, 2020) – Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, The LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau has made the difficult and disappointing decision to cancel the 2020 Great Lakes Grand Prix
After a thorough assessment of the impact 0f the COVID-19 pandemic we have been forced to make the decision to cancel the 2020 Great Lakes Grand Prix. The devastating economic impact on our community partners and within the Hospitality Industry left us no other choice. Based upon the direction of governmental leaders, public health authorities, and in consultation with Offshore Powerboat Association and our Board of Directors we must now look towards next year to bring back this great event.
“This is a heartbreaking decision for everyone”, said CVB Executive Director Jack L. Arnett. “After exhausting all possible options, we came to the conclusion that because of the significant public health uncertainty that will still exist several months from now, and with direction from local leadership, we concluded that it simply will not be possible to proceed with the race in 2020”. Arnett went on to say, “Our Industry has been turned upside down! We now need to refocus on rebuilding our industry. Our Goal moving forward needs to be helping to get our partners in a better place by focusing on putting together a recovery plan that can lead our partners out of this unsettling time. Our plan is to bring the race back in 2021 even bigger and better”.
